UNITY:
TWO KINDS AS WRITTEN IN THE BIBLE
[1] TRUE UNITY
“Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no
divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together
in the same mind and in the same judgment.”
1 Corinthians 1:10.
[2] FALSE UNITY
“These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength
unto the beast.” Revelation 17:13
Who is the center of true unity?
“The secret of unity is found in the equality of believers
in Christ. The reason for all division, discord, and difference
is found in separation from Christ. Christ is the center to which
all should be attracted; for the nearer we approach the center,
the closer we shall come together in feeling, in sympathy, in
love, growing into the character and image of Jesus. With God
there is no respect of persons.”
Selected Messages, book 1, p 259
As God’s people how are we to show our equality?
“But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even
Christ; and all ye are brethren.”
Matthew 23:8
What are the 3 forms of true unity exhorted by Jesus in His
prayer?
“That they all may be one; as thou,
Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may
be one in us: that the world may believe that
thou hast sent me.”
John 17:21
Who is the head of the church?
“For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ
is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives
be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives,
even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.”
Ephesians 5:23-26
How is the church of Christ described?
“That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing
of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious
church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that
it should be holy and without blemish.”
Ephesians 5:27
How is the relationship of Christ and His church described?
“For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his
bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother,
and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the
church.”
Ephesians 5:30-32
How are we related to Christ?
“Be strong, and talk hope. Press your way through obstacles.
You are in spiritual wedlock with Jesus Christ.”
Testimonies, vol. 6, p 462
With this spiritual wedlock with Jesus Christ, what is God’s
exhortation to His church?
“For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose
name is Jealous, is a jealous God.”
Exodus 34:14
“ Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them:
for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God…”
Exodus 20:5
