THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST IS-
1. The whole body of God’s law.
“First, I suppose that the gospel of Christ is the whole
body of God's law.”
Great Controversy, p 91.
2. A doctrine.
“He had once said, "If I knew that my doctrine had
injured one human being, however poor and unknown,--which it could
not, for it is the very gospel,--I would rather face death ten
times over than not retract it."
Spirit of Prophecy, vol 4, p 147.
3. The power of God unto salvation.
“ For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is
the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to
the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
Romans 1:16.
THE HOLY SPIRIT
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost
is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem,
and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part
of the earth. “
Acts 1:8.
“The gift of His Holy Spirit, rich, full, and abundant,
is to be to His church as an encompassing wall of fire, which
the powers of hell shall not prevail against. In their untainted
purity and spotless perfection, Christ looks upon His people as
the reward of all His suffering, His humiliation, and His love,
and the supplement of His glory--Christ, the great center from
which radiates all glory. "Blessed are they which are called
unto the marriage supper of the Lamb."
Testimonies to Ministers, p 18.
JESUS CHRIST, THE CHIEF CORNER STONE
What is the foundation of the apostles and prophets spoken thereof?
“Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners,
but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets,
Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all
the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple
in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation
of God through the Spirit. “
Ephesians 2:19-22.
After what similitude is Christ’s kingdom or God’s
church built?
“During ages of spiritual darkness the church of God has
been as a city set on a hill. From age to age, through successive
generations, the pure doctrines of heaven have been unfolding
within its borders. Enfeebled and defective as it may appear,
the church is the one object upon which God bestows in a special
sense His supreme regard. It is the theater of His grace, in which
He delights to reveal His power to transform hearts.
"Whereunto," asked Christ, "shall we liken the
kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?"
Mark 4:30. He could not employ the kingdoms of the world as a
similitude. In society He found nothing with which to compare
it. Earthly kingdoms rule by the ascendancy of physical power;
but from Christ's kingdom every carnal weapon, every instrument
of coercion, is banished. This kingdom is to uplift and ennoble
humanity. God's church is the court of Holy life, filled with
varied gifts and endowed with the Holy Spirit. The members are
to find their happiness in the happiness of those whom they help
and bless.”
Acts of the Apostles, p 12.
“His church is to be a temple built after the divine similitude,
and the angelic architect has brought his golden measuring rod
from heaven, that every stone may be hewed and squared by the
divine measurement and polished to shine as an emblem of heaven,
radiating in all directions the bright, clear beams of the Sun
of Righteousness.”
Testimonies to Ministers, p 17.
Whose cases are now being considered in this anti-typical day
of Atonement and investigative judgment?
“In the typical service only those who had come before God
with confession and repentance, and whose sins, through the blood
of the sin offering, were transferred to the sanctuary, had a
part in the service of the Day of Atonement. So in the great day
of final atonement and investigative judgment the only cases considered
are those of the professed people of God. The judgment of the
wicked is a distinct and separate work, and takes place at a later
period. "Judgment must begin at the house of God: and if
it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey
not the gospel?" 1 Peter 4:17.”
Great Controversy, p 480.
