XX - THE 2ND FULFILLMENT OF DANIEL 2:33, 41-43

“Read the book of Daniel. Call up, point by point, the history of the kingdoms there represented. Behold statesmen, councils, powerful armies, and see how God wrought to abase the pride of men, and lay human glory in the dust. . . . The light that Daniel received from God was given especially for these last days. The visions he saw by the banks of the Ulai and the Hiddekel, the great rivers of Shinar, are now in process of fulfillment, and all the events foretold will soon come to pass.”

What particular segment in past history will be repeated or has a dual application?
“A Dual Representation.—The image revealed to Nebuchadnezzar, while representing the deterioration of the kingdoms of the earth in power and glory, also fitly represents the deterioration of religion and morality among the people of these kingdoms.”

It is very clear here that God is referring to Daniel 2 as the prophecy that has a dual representation, but what particular are of Daniel 2?
“We have come to a time when God’s sacred work is represented by the feet of the image in which the iron was mixed with the miry clay.”

Let us go back to those four metallic kingdoms of Daniel 2 and see what we can find.
1. Babylon – Gold – Daniel 2:38 / Lion – Daniel 7:4.
2. Medo-Persia - Silver – Daniel 2:32, 39 / Bear – Daniel 7:5.
3. Greece – Brass – Daniel 2:32, 39 / Leopard – Daniel 7:6.
4. Pagan Rome – Iron – Daniel 2:33, 40 / Dragon – Daniel 7:7; Rev. 12:3.

“This image’s head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, his legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay.”
Daniel 2:32-33.

The question now that will arise, if the iron legs represents Pagan Rome, why was there still an existence of iron mix with clay at the foot of the image? Who then also represented the clay? Let us answer this one by one.

Who is represented by the iron?
“After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.”
Daniel 7:7.

“And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as [the feet] of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.”
Revelation 13:1-2.

So the Iron represents the Leopard-like beast of Rev. 13:1-2 which was the Roman Catholic Church.

Who is represented by the clay?
“And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.”
Revelation 13:11-12.

Two things that must be considered here. First, this beast came out from the earth. According to Webster’s dictionary another word for earth is clay, and the only beast or kingdom that fits this description is the United States of America. It also coincides with the picture that John saw in the wilderness as described in Rev. 17:3 that “a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast”. Second, that this kingdom exerciseth all the powers of the first beast, not because he taketh that power but because the first beast gave that power to him (see SpM 1-2). Also it was described in Daniel 2:33 as “part of iron and part of clay” or in Daniel 2:41-43 as “iron mixed with miry clay”. That is why in Daniel 2:42 it says, “And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.” Surely as God hat said, there will be two powers united into one kingdom, and only one kingdom until the end. It is the kingdom of clay or the United States of America. Please read Revelation 13:11-17.

Did God furnish us evidence in His word that the clay in Daniel 2 represents a kingdom or beast?
Certainly! We are already settled that the beast of Revelation 17 is the United States of America; the beast that came out from the earth or clay. And to give us more brighter understanding, God brings us to Daniel 2:43-45 which says:
“And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.”

It is no less than God’s divine Word who gives us the light that the clay described in Daniel 2 represents a kingdom. How about 4BC 1168-1169 which says that “the mingling of Churchcraft and Statecraft is represented by the iron and the clay.” Nowhere in God’s Word (Bible and Spirit of Prophecy) can we find that a church represents iron and a state represents clay. We can get to this clearly by going back to Daniel 2:43 which speaks about the “mingling with the seed of men”, describe also in Rev. 17:13 as “having one mind”, meaning, that there will be a universal bond of union, one great harmony, a confederacy of satan’s forces (3SM 392-393).
In Great Controversy, p 443, it says:
“When the early church became corrupted by departing from the simplicity of the gospel and accepting heathen rites and customs, she lost the Spirit and power of God; and in order to control the consciences of the people, she sought the support of the secular power. The result was the papacy, a church that controlled the power of the state and employed it to further her own ends, especially for the punishment of "heresy." In order for the United States to form an image of the beast, the religious power must so control the civil government that the authority of the state will also be employed by the church to accomplish her own ends.”

The words in 4BC 1168 simply means that church and state will be united universally in the last days and these two powers, the clay and the iron that becomes one kingdom, will lead out in this great and terrible crises.

“And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.
“Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream [is] certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.”
